I'm trying to understand how to use my Digi Portserver TS 2 port MEI device so that I can connect to an old DOS based BBS over the network.
I have the PortServer plugged into my switch and I have no problem getting an IP address. I'm able to log in to the web interface and the telnet interface with no problem.
I have the RJ45 to DB9 cable that came with the PortServer running between Port 1 on the PortServer, and COM1 on the DOS computer. The BBS is up and running and ready to accept a "call" on COM1.
I've got into the web interface for the PortServer and have configured Port 1 in the Serial Ports section for Modem Emulation. (Though, I'm not sure if it should be Modem Emulation or something else. There's no real hardware modem involved. The BBS is set up to think of COM1 as a null modem. And I can connect to the BBS via null modem from another computer using a serial cross over cable.)
At this point, I don't know how to proceed so that I can connect to the BBS from other computers over the network. Obviously I don't just telnet to the IP address because that just connects me to the PortServer.
How do I tell the PortServer to "redirect" telnet sessions to Port 1 so that I pass through the PortServer transparently and just see the BBS log in screen?
